About Us

FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS!

The Ritter Family welcomes you!

In 2000 my wife Simone and I moved from Bavaria, Germany to St. Andrews, Canada to open the EUROPA Restaurant.
After gaining international cooking experience in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Royal Viking Cruise lines I earned my culinary masters degree in Baden-Baden, Germany in 1998.
It was my dream to become self employed; and after enjoying the splendor of Canada and the friendliness of its people during my cruise ship days I leaped forward and took over 'L'Europe Restaurant'.
Together, now with our three children, we enjoy living in this quaint maritime village; are well settled members of the community embracing opportunities to meet and welcome new residents and helping out with a variety of fundraisers and volunteering opportunities.

Since our arrival we have focused on developing the Inn, always with the environment at heart. Gradually adding new guest rooms, opening up the dining rooms, and in 2010 making major upgrades to the outside facade- to fit in with the historic character of the town. In the interior we added a Spa and Fitness Area and new guest rooms while keeping the historic beam construction of the building exposed. We choose 'green building materials' in our remodelling as we are dedicated to providing you with a healthful and memorable experience.

We source our food from local producers and organic growers and use biodegradable, earth-friendly products if possible, we recycle paper, cardboard and bottles,  and provide our guests with 100% natural soaps handmade locally. We package our take-out foods in corn-based compostable containers, washing and pressing our linens on-site to eliminate shipping pollution to name a few... we also grow a selection of our herbs and edible flowers in the back yard.
We love living in harmony with nature.

My family and I and our Team are looking forward to welcoming you at Europa Inn in beautiful St. Andrews by-the-Sea.

yours in hospitality,

Markus Ritter with Simone, Sabrina, Maximilian and Mathias
